For many people feeling depressed, a piece of chocolate offers them comfort and a moment of pleasure. Experts say this is due to the mood-enhancing affects of chocolate. Not surprisingly, new studies indicate that depressed people eat more chocolate than those who aren’t depressed.

In a recent study conducted by several West Coast universities, more than 900 men and women were interviewed about their chocolate eating habits. The goal was to determine how much chocolate they eat regularly and how often. None of the participants were using antidepressants.

The researchers assessed the participant’s mood using a widely accepted depression scale. What they found was a definite link between the feelings of depression in men and women and the consumption of chocolate.

The found on average, that the people who had depression ate about eight and a half servings of chocolate each month. By contrast, those who said they didn’t have depression ate only five and a half servings a month.

Those individuals who were diagnosed as clinically depressed consumed an average of about 12 servings of chocolate per month. When asked, the researchers learned that none of the participants believed that the chocolate they ate helped their depression. In this study one serving of chocolate was an ounce.

The study conducted was not designed to determine why people eat more chocolate when they are depressed. Researchers deduced that depression may stimulate a craving for chocolate, making people consume chocolate to treat their condition.

Researchers have found that chocolate has mood-lifting benefits by the release of endorphins. Unfortunately, the process can have a cyclical effect – that by consuming a lot of chocolate, people may feel more depressed and want to eat more chocolate to feel better.

As much as researchers have learned from these studies, it’s clear that a lot more needs to be learned about the link between chocolate and depression.

The Best Radiohead Songs For A Newbie

 

When it comes to greatest bands of the past twenty years, one band that is inevitably thrown in the conversation is Radiohead. Sure, U2, Green Day, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Dave Matthews Band can have arguments made for them, but none of these bands continue to mature the way that Radiohead does (except maybe Green Day).

While my favorite Radiohead songs are constantly changing, here are some ones that are currently on my playlist.

High and Dry is a very popular Radiohead song off their album, “The Bends.” It is a great song to learn on an acoustic guitar as well and seems to be a very popular song to play during sad moments in movies.

Probably the most famous Radiohead song is “Paranoid Android” off of OK Computer. Hailed as a modern day “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Paranoid Android is a 6 plus minute long rock epic of a song. It has highs and lows and continues to mature with each listen.

Jigsaw Falling Into Place, off the In Rainbows album is another favorite of mine. It starts off mellow but daunting and slowly builds throughout the verses to finally peak in the last stanza of the song, where Yorke sings the title of the song to brilliant background music.

I Might Be Wrong is a great Radiohead song for a beginner to listen to. It is a quintessential song by the band and when they play it live, the crowd goes absolutely nuts. It is one of their many songs that gets me going at the beginning of a night.

On The Bends album, Radiohead had much more of a singer-songwriter sound. One example of a song that fits this description is Fake Plastic Trees. Lyrically it exudes all things Thom Yorke, however the melody is very catchy and it is a beautiful song that has been featured in many movies and television shows.

So this is the list. If you have never experienced this amazing band’s music, these songs are a great place to start.

Time management is very important in this busy world. Some people think that it just come naturally. However, some say that it is an acquired skill. Whichever is true, you have to consider the following tips and you will learn to manage everything:

A good practice is to start each day creating a to-do list. It is easier to be productive throughout the day if you know what you need to accomplish. Writing down these tasks and going through them one by one will help you stay focused and organized. Plus, you’re less likely to forget important tasks because you’ve written the tasks down.

When creating a schedule for your to-do list, it’s best to work on difficult tasks when you are most alert during the day. If you’re a morning person, then work on the most challenging tasks in the morning. If you’re a night person, work on these at night.

To avoid becoming stressed, schedule some down-time with friends and family. Time management is all about balance, not about being a workaholic.

You may schedule for an evening date with your special someone, spouse or a lover if you are single, or a lunch with a friend. Or a drop by visit to your parents after work in the afternoon. In this manner, your professional life and personal life is balanced. Life could be so boring if you don’t know how to balance it.

Try to think from the most important task to the least one to do that day. Do first the necessary ones and if possible, delegate to others the less important. If you have no more time, just eliminate or take away in your list those things that are not essential.

Once a task has been completed properly leave it and move to another task. Do not dwell on one task trying to improve on it numerous times, while leaving less time on working on other task that are equally important.

Try using Pareto’s principle when deciding on a task to do. In summary, this principle states that you should focus on tasks that yield more productivity – this is the 20-80 rule. Twenty percent of effort for 80 percent of productivity.
